Case Study: Flexible working that works for family life

Flexible working

A new regular feature is our case studies, examples of great flexible working across a range of industries. This week it’s Dr. Matt Baker & Suz Baker sharing their story with us.

27 July 2017

As a contract Project Manager, Suz has worked for the past ten years in Financial Services in companies in and around Bristol. With a focus on developing Programme Office processes and teams she enjoys the varied and transitory nature of contract work.

Matt spent four years completing his PhD whilst juggling young kids and is now a Educational Psychologist working for North Somerset and Swindon Council's, ensuring that all children are able to access education. Matt told us;

“with two small children we both wanted to jointly pursue flexible work schedules to give us both a chance to spend additional time at home with the children”.

With support from their employers, they now both work four days a week, each having a separate day off to spend time with their children. Suz told us;

“our schedule is ideal for our family but also for us professionally, neither of us feel that our careers are compromised. We continue to develop professionally and pursue new challenges at work while remaining actively engaged in family life, it’s perfect!”.
