Business Transformation Manager

Our client, a FTSE 100 Financial Services business, is looking for a Business Transformation Manager.  They are offering a flexible schedule, which can include 4 or 5 days, early or late start or finishes and/or a home/office split and a salary of up to £70k, with a market leading benefits package.  They are looking for a highly personable individual who can understand and challenge business strategy in the UK Financial Services Insurance sector, engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. The Team

Accelerate and achieve delivery of the UK Insurance business strategy in the most cost efficient and effective way. Work with the business to shape their vision into conceptual business cases and provide challenge, intervention and assurance from programme mobilisation through to delivery of outcomes and benefits.

The purpose of the Strategic Transformation team is to ensure that the UK Insurance business Change Portfolio is constructed, prioritised, coordinated and controlled in order to sustain and enable efficient execution of strategy and future ambitions.


Key Role Responsibilities

This role is wide ranging and varied but specifically includes:

  • Facilitate investment decisions for UK Insurance wide strategic projects and ensure they are doable, affordable and ultimately prioritised

  • Ensure programmes are set up for success by analysing and challenging strategically alignment, cost makeup, benefit outcomes, resource requirements, risk considerations, and business architectural and system impacts

  • Provide regular high quality analytics on the performance of strategic projects to drive Executive decisions on prioritisation and track progression against corporate plan targets

  • Build strong stakeholder relationships across key business and programme roles to understand the critical programme health factors and proactively intervene to remove blockers and safeguard benefits

  • Develop a strong understanding of the UK Insurance strategic direction of the business area linked to customer, IT, financial, and colleague drivers, in order to be able to make strong credible interventions in shaping and evolving the change portfolio

  • Provide transparency in programme control to risk, audit and compliance

  • Provide business areas with the space to lead and support local investment decisions through detailed review and coaching

  • Ensure engagement across UK Insurance projects, linking similar initiatives to maximise synergies

  • Drive consistency of delivery through applying common business and investment principles, delivering sponsor training and applying a high quality threshold to change investment portfolio management

  • Responsible for the performance of the internal investment processes – including planning, project management, progress and risk reporting ; continuously looking for ways to improve

  • A collaborator who can build effective working relationships with peers, senior colleagues alike. Credible and client friendly across business unit teams, as major stakeholders and sponsors of their own parts of the Strategic Portfolio

  • Good understanding of the UK Insurance  market strategy with the ability to translate and cascade into the business area that you’re aligned to/focussing on

  • Ability to understand business processes and systems thinking to an extent that will enable you to understand resource deployment & challenges across initiatives

  • Ability to understand all internal investment processes including stakeholders in planning, project management, progress and risk reporting processes and their effectiveness

  • Working to shape propositions into conceptual business cases. Taking the vision and turning it into reality. Helping business areas to produce a business case that reflects what they’re actually trying to do

  • Applying insights, experience and assurance techniques to programmes

  • Prepared to constructively challenge senior colleagues including ExCo members, as a business partner. Is this programme delivering what it said it would do and if not why not? With the ability to make credible diagnoses to realign programmes to plans

  • Accurate with strong attention to detail; alongside a desire to learn and a willingness to challenge the accepted norm


Essential Skills

  • Financial and business analytical capability is fundamental. An important precursor is the requirement to understand the strategic direction and business performance of the business area that is sponsoring, investing and delivering the initiative

  • Appreciation of business strategy both in terms of derivation and also application to corporate planning and change execution

  • Proactive in playing a supportive role to help the business get there and deliver – this role is not an order taker!

  • Proven strong written and verbal communication capabilities

  • Role will require excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across UK Insurance to drive forward transformation initiatives. Strong networking skills. Ensure key stakeholders know what they need to know, when they need to know it.

  • Comfortable working at pace right across the portfolio. Sufficiently agile to respond proactively as priorities change.
