Strategic Bids and Relationship Manager

Our client is looking for someone from a professional background who thoroughly understands the bid process, to join their team in Reading.

The role has a strong focus around bid preparation but is also client facing with a strategic overview. Working closely with the bids team and business development managers you'll be assisting in developing new business opportunities. It's a soft sales environment to develop referrals and present to clients as part of the team.

Your commercial acumen will enable you to speak confidently with clients to understand their requirements. You'll be involved in planning, coordinating, writing and reporting - turning technical jargon into easily understood proposals. You'll also be setting up and attending sales presentations and meetings, working on bids with new and existing clients and being responsible for reporting on the ongoing development of these opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Working in collaboration with partners and managers to develop strategic pursuit plans that relate to key target accounts, both new and existing clients.

  • Support and attend when required, client and target meetings with the relevant directors / partners / managers to capture and understand the specific key business needs, risks, opportunities and service requirements.

  • Managing and maintaining the pipeline of opportunities, coordinating and flagging required activity and follow up across the team.

  • Maintain a relationship matrix for the company to ensure that  internal referrals are maximised.

  • Supporting the teams across the company to sell the benefits and drive licence sales.

  • To work alongside Managers and teams to develop differentiated value propositions that fuse client needs, company strengths and weaknesses, and the threats posed by our competitors playing in the relevant markets.

  • Support early engagement / on-boarding of all relevant company stakeholders, thus building momentum.

  • Facilitating development of innovative and insightful commercial strategies and resource models that are attractive for both the company and our clients.

  • Collaborating with the managers to develop the RFP documentation (if negotiated position cannot be agreed) that plays to the strengths of the company including all quality, pricing and contract elements.

  • Supporting on qualification of bid opportunities.

  • Facilitating the development of winning value propositions in consultation with bid and client delivery teams.

  • Working with bid writers to incorporate relevant aspects of the solution into their storyboards.

Requirements

  • Understand the company brand and ensure that all activities are consistent with brand

  • Work with sales and marketing team, across main offices to deliver key elements of the stream-wide sales and marketing plan

  • Support any commercial development programmes for the department

  • Travel within the UK and overseas may be required

  • Flexibility with hours will be required to meet the requirements of international conference calls and the demands of producing proposals to tight deadlines

  • Calling of sales prospect when necessary

  • Maintaining a smart, professional, client-ready appearance at all times

  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times

  • To provide an exceptional client experience and support client initiatives within the firm, as well as being both proactive and responsive, and helping to create a positive impression at all touch points

  • Must be confident and friendly, especially around new acquaintances

  • Happy and able to work alone as well as in a team

About You

  • minimum of 2 years experience working with bids
  • Professional background with a strong work ethic
  • commercial savviness 
  • ideally someone who also has soft sales and client facing experience
  • strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • excellent organisational ability with an eye for detail
  • enjoy working in a team environment and supporting your colleagues
  • confidence to hold your own and challenge the team where appropriate
