International Womens Day: Celebrating our female heroes!

International Womens DayOn International Womens Day we wants to take a moment to mention our heroes, those that inspire us and are trailblazers for flexible working, start ups and being mums! They will all tell you there's no such thing as being a super mum and no such thing as balance, but we think they are doing pretty amazing!

8 March 2018

Mel Bound - This Mum Runs - A fellow Bristol E Spark member, Mel put a desperate shout out for a running buddy on Facebook in November 2014 . With two kids under 5, a busy job, and long commute, any hope of time to herself, let alone to exercise, lots of women felt the same. From that one Facebook post, 75 Mums turned up to run with Mel. Hundreds came the following week and This Mum Runs was born. She has now turned this into a full time job and a multifaceted community with global dreams - offering hundreds of free runs a month, a growing programme of coaching and courses, a specially trained team of coaches (Run Makers) and volunteers (Run Angels) and a fab range of running gear for Mums and kids. We love her instagram account, sharing her life running the business.

Sheryl Sandberg - Facebook COO - It goes without saying why we love Sheryl, from her amazing, inspiring speeches talking about the tragic loss of her husband and how she managed to keep going, to her amazing business experience running Facebook, as well as the work she does with Lean In, plus the bestselling books she's written, she's a superhero! (How does she find the time?!)

Anna Whitehouse AKA Motherpukka - Anna is a massive champion for Flexible Working, with her #FlexAppeal campaign on Social Media, she has 2 small kids and takes them with her on her flash mobs and talks at many corporate events, with over 150k followers, she does so much to share the benefits of flexible working and push employers to do more to make flexible working available to new and existing staff.

Steph Douglas - Founder of Don't Buy Her Flowers, thoughtful gift packages. launched after Steph had a baby and she got so many flowers that she ran out of vases, then she had to give them away or bin them. This gave her the idea to found the business in 2014 to purchase beautiful gift packages online, and is going from strength to strength, Steph now has 3 kids and as well as running the business, she also talks at events regularly, sharing not only her business advice, but her parenting journey.

Helena Hills - True Start Coffee Also a Bristol E Spark past member, we saw a talk by Helena a couple of years ago at the start of their journey, (before we had launched Flexology) she was so inspiring! True Start coffee is designed specifically for sports performance, a natural energy boost with the perfect level of caffeine plus all the benefits of great coffee. They focus on completely natural coffee with no synthetics, ethically sourced and tastes awesome. True Start has grown so quickly and in 2017 they won Scale-Up Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
